VAUGHN KREESTOE AKA The SUPERSONIC SOUL NINJAS
http://kreestoe.com/
This Bellingham, Washington trio first comes across like a classic organ-drums-guitar soul jazz combo but the plethora of nifty touches and sweet complications quickly affirmed them as a cut above the pack. As one wild-legged onlooker barked, “Crush grooves, man. They are killing it.” They ranged from an instrumental answer to vintage Philly soul to more fiery spaces, but often dipping into the blues underpinning their funk. Executed with precision and full of well placed pauses and general centrifugal force, you might call it an extraordinarily fine soundtrack to a good porno.
VS.
SNUG HARBOR AKA The FUNK PILLAGING PIRATES
http://myspace.com/snugharbormusic
Snug Harbor isa funk-soul-fusionseptet, tucked away in the corner of the Northwest, in the city of Bellingham, WA. Their ages range from 21-36, but their passion for music is exercised and recognized at every live performance. This amalgamation consists of a diverse array of members ranging from Japan, New York and Maine, to North Dakota and Washington. In 2008, the band set out to increase the awareness toward positive, fun, original and danceable grooves along side a community of brilliant musicians with similar intensions.
Fans of Snug Harbor can expect to see and hear musicianship as it relates to funk, jazz, soul and reggae music. Horns, polyrhythms, electric synthesizers, special effects, smooth vocals, crowd participation, and high-energy enthusiasm make up a typical live performance. Snug Harbor released their debut album, “Sounds From the York”, September 22, 2009. It was recorded live in-studio and engineered by Chris Vita. “Sounds From the York” can be found on iTunes, Amazon, CDbaby, and many other media outlets.
“The fellows of Snug Harbor could be likened to the pellmell twigs of the most comfortable – and jazzy – birds nest that you ever grooved into. Seemingly randomly picked up from all across the country (Maine, New York, South Dakota, Spokane, Everett, Anacortes and Bellingham), these guys are a scrappy group of talented musicians and eclectic personalities. They wound up together with the common goal of playing music and having fun. Luckily what started as jazz jam sessions went public for the rest of us to enjoy (and is heading to the recording studio this summer for those of us who are ready to take them home).
Snug Harbor was the name of the first jazz club trumpet player and band leader Will Glazier went to in New Orleans. It’s also a real place on San Juan Island. Most importantly, Snug Harbor (the band) has become a warm and happy destination for Bellingham’s lovers of jazz, funk and soul to let loose…”
